Police ID man killed in Augusta County hit-and-run

STAUNTON – Virginia State Police have identified a man killed two days ago just outside of Staunton in a hit-and-run, and authorities are still seeking the public's help in finding the suspect.

Police reported earlier that the incident took place Wednesday shortly before 10 p.m. on Parkersburg Turnpike and Pine Tree Lane.

The man killed was Rickey C. Dickey, 42, of Staunton, a press release said Friday. Dickey died at the scene.

Police said the suspect vehicle was headed east on Parkersburg Turnpike when Dickey was hit.

"At this stage of the investigation, the suspect vehicle is believed to have been a maroon or red truck or SUV," police said in the latest release. "The vehicle will have damage to its right front headlight, front turn signal, and/or both."

The crash remains under investigation.
