Police identify 27-year-old skateboarder killed in Thursday crash near Delmar

Police have identified the Laurel man killed in a Thursday afternoon crash north of Delmar as 27-year-old Wilder Linares-Chilel.

Linares-Chilel was riding a motorized skateboard Thursday in the center of Bi-State Boulevard, north of Allen's Mill Road, when he was struck by a Hyundai Tucson at around 5:50 p.m., Delaware State Police said.

For unknown reasons, police said, Linares-Chilel swerved right into the Hyundai's path as the vehicle traveled north. The Hyundai then swerved right to avoid the pedestrian, but Linares-Chilel continued into the northbound lane and was struck by the Hyundai.

Linares-Chilel hit the windshield of the Hyundai before falling off the vehicle. The Hyundai continued swerving right and struck a mailbox on private property, according to police.

Linares-Chilel was taken to a local hospital where he later died. The driver of the Hyundai, a 21-year-old woman from Fruitland, Maryland, was not injured.

Police continue to investigate this crash, which closed the road for about four hours on Thursday. Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to call Master Cpl. K. Argo at 302-703-3264 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
