Police identify 59-year-old man killed in early Thursday hit-and-run crash on I-95 north

Delaware State Police have identified a 59-year-old man who was killed early Thursday while crossing the northbound lanes of I-95 near New Castle as Hector Hernandez.

Police continue searching for the tractor-trailer driver who fled the scene after striking Hernandez a little after 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Investigators said Hernandez ran across the northbound lanes of I-95 from a sandbox in the median toward Airport Road. Hernandez, who was wearing dark clothing, was struck by a tractor-trailer while in the highway's right center lane.

The tractor-trailer did not stop and police said the driver fled.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to investigators at (302) 365-8484.
