Police identify victim of Friday's crash on Route 61 in Palo Alto

Mar. 25—Police have identified the victim of a crash Friday on Route 61 in Palo Alto as a 29-year-old Steelton woman.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 5:41 p.m. as an Acura MDX driven by Samantha M. Colon, 33, of Pottsville, was making a left curve in the southbound lane near Richard Street when, for unknown reasons, she lost control and went into a slide.

The vehicle crossed over a raised median and into the northbound lane, hitting a Chevrolet Trax driven by Deborah E. Fritzinger, 66, of Port Carbon. The vehicles went off the road, with the Acura becoming wedged in an embankment and the Chevrolet facing west on the right shoulder.

Police said a passenger in the Acura, Iesha Colon, died at the scene.

Police reported the driver of the Acura, Samantha Colon, was uninjured. Six other passengers — Alberto Colon, 56, of Pottsville, Patricia Colon, 19, of Pottsville, and four children ages 8, 10, 13 and 14 — were taken to the hospital for suspected injuries.

Fritzinger was transported to the hospital with suspected minor injuries. She was the only occupant in the Chevrolet.

Firefighters from Pottsville's Good Intent, American Hose, Humane and Yorkville Hose companies responded to the scene, as did state police, EMS, fire police and the Crash Reconstruction Team and Forensic Services Unit from Reading.
