Police investigate break-in at Sir Paul McCartney's London home
Sir Paul McCartney’s mansion in north-west London was broken into by thieves last week. Police have confirmed they are investigating a reported break-in at McCartney’s St John Woods home.
According to Scotland Yard, thieves targeted the mansion, worth a reported £10 million, at 6.20pm on 7 December, with police officers discovering signs of forced entry.
They have not confirmed whether Sir Paul McCartney or his wife Nancy Shevell were at the house at the time of the incident.
The break-in came just days before McCartney played a gig at his home city of Liverpool. Here he played 38 songs as part of the UK leg of his Freshen Up tour. He is also due to play at London’s O2 Arena on Sunday, December 16.
No arrests have been made and the investigation will continue, Scotland Yard confirmed.
It’s not the first time a former Beatles band member has been targeted at home. George Harrison was knifed in the chest by an intruder at his home in Oxfordshire in December 1999.
The lead guitarist, who died from lung cancer in 2001, was hospitalised with more than 40 stab wounds and part of his punctured lung was removed.
Sir Paul’s break-in is also nearly 38 years to the day that The Beatles member John Lennon was murdered in New York.
Lennon was shot four times by Mark David Chapman as he walked through the archway of his apartment at the Dakota on December 8 1980.
The star was rushed in a police cruiser to the emergency room of nearby Roosevelt Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Chapman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life.
