Police said Charles Jimmie Maxie, Jr., 46, had been shot and died later at the hospital.
On Thursday, investigators arrested the suspect, Cedric Thompson, 29, and charged him with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.
“There’s not a homicide that’s going to occur in the city that’s not frustrating,” CMPD Maj. Ryan Butler said. “Every homicide is the loss of an individual life.”
Witnesses said they saw a man get shot in the parking lot of Wayne’s Supermarket and a possible suspect’s vehicle drove off on North Graham Street.
Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide detective. Detective Diekhaus is the lead detective assigned to this case. Information can also be left anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or by clicking here.
