Police continuing to look for information in death of woman near Geneva College

Police department handbooks often leave the chain of command to superior officers, but the process of where these reports go after that point can differ by individual departments.

BEAVER FALLS ― Local police are continuing an investigation after a body was found on a walking trail near Geneva College Thursday afternoon.

According to a release from the Beaver Falls Police Department, the body of an adult woman was found around 9:24 a.m. Jan. 11. While police have not released many details to the public, several community members later identified the woman as 41-year-old Rebecca Miller, a resident of Cornerstone Recovery and Supports in Beaver Falls.

Officers said they received a report Miller was missing on Jan. 9, with the initial report indicating she was last seen on Jan. 7. Members of the Cornerstone Recovery and Supports community said Miller had left the facility with a male friend with plans to go on a walk together, but did return home despite a schedule change in her role at the local nonprofit Crop and Kettle the following day.

Several local news outlets have cited unnamed sources that indicate that Miller had suffered "multiple stab wounds," but police have not made an official statement on the cause of death or the woman's injuries. As of Tuesday morning, the incident remains under investigation and an official cause of death has not been released.

"We share in the suffering of the community and we pray for peace and comfort for all of the family and friends who had the joy to know her," Crop and Kettle said on its Instagram page. "Bex will be remembered for her charm, wit, creativity, and compassion. We praise God for the blessing of her life and know that He holds her now, until we meet at home again."

Friends and family have said that they remember Miller's dedication to her work, which included the role of Catering Chef at New Brighton's Crop and Kettle and an active role with the SOMA Gathering in Beaver Falls. In addition to her career, Miller also had a love of music, baking, dancing and loving owner of her rescue dog, Ellie.

Beaver Falls police and Geneva College officials have shared that they do not believe there is an active threat to the community.
