Police identify pedestrian killed in early morning crash in Brockton
Brockton Police are investigating a fatal accident Wednesday morning after a vehicle struck a female pedestrian, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz.
Cruz said that Chafang Wu, 50 years old, of Brockton, was killed due to the crash on Ash and West Chestnut Streets just after 6:30 a.m.
Emergency crews performed CPR before transporting Wu to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Many neighbors suspect solar glare played a role in the deadly crash.
“When the sun comes up, when you are coming up that hill, traveling east bound on West Chestnut Street, that sun is right in your eyes,” said Robert Gagnon.
The driver and two other occupants of a Toyota Prius stayed on the scene after hitting Wu and then a utility pole. All three people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Brockton Fire Department.
Neighbor Guy Pierre ran to help the driver of the Prius. He believes the driver never saw Wu before the crash.
“It’s not that woman’s fault,” Pierre said. “No way she saw that woman, no way.”
No further information has been immediately available. The investigation is active and ongoing, but the Plymouth County DA said foul play is not suspected.
