Police investigating fatal shooting of Aliquippa teenager, offering reward for info

Police department handbooks often leave the chain of command to superior officers, but the process of where these reports go after that point can differ by individual departments.

ALIQUIPPA ― State police and local detectives are asking for the public's help as they investigate the fatal shooting of a local teenager.

According to state police, troopers responded to reports of a shooting along Main and Knoll streets in Aliquippa around 11:20 p.m. Saturday. When the troopers arrived at the scene, they found the body of 15-year-old Dahvea Sparrow lying in the street.

"The community is looking for answers," said Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker. "He wasn't just a kid in the streets, he was Dahvea. Everybody in this city knew Dahvea, everybody knows the family. That kid's smile would light up a room."

According to Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier, Sparrow had been at a house party in the area before the shooting occurred. After discovering the homicide, local and state police agencies have continued to search for the teen's killer, but as of Monday morning, no suspects have been publicly identified or charged in the shooting.

"Aliquippa and the state police have been working for 17 and a half hours, non-stop, to investigate this case," Lozier said during a press event on Sunday evening. "It's the death of a minor, the tragic death of a young man, and we want to get the community's assistance here."

During the Sunday evening event, the Beaver County Crime Solvers announced they would be offering a one-week reward of $5,000 for information that can lead to a murder arrest and conviction. Callers can anonymously contact the Crime Solvers at 724-774-2000 or the Pennsylvania State Police Beaver Barracks at 724-773-7400 to share information related to the shooting.

"The coward that did this, or anyone that saw it happen, needs to come forward," Walker said. "This isn't the city of Los Angeles, this is lovely Aliquippa. What we have seen the last few months isn't Aliquippa."
