MAURICE DUBOIS: Police are investigating after a pedestrian and a dog were killed on a street on Long Island.

JESSICA MOORE: CBS 2's Ali Bauman live at the scene in Massapequa. Ali?

ALI BAUMAN: Well, Maurice and Jessica, police just reopened this section of Merrick Road here. They had it closed as they were investigating. Police say this happened around 8:00 PM tonight on Merrick Road near Haight Avenue in Massapequa. A pedestrian and a dog were hit by a driver while crossing the street, and it appears both the pedestrian and dog were killed.

Police say the driver stayed on scene, and right now, they're investigating if there is any criminality. This, of course, is an ongoing investigation. But again, Merrick Road here just reopened, and we'll continue to update you as soon as more information becomes available. For now, we're live in Nassau County on Long Island. Ali Bauman, CBS 2 News.

MAURICE DUBOIS: Ali, thank you.
