Police investigating after St. Paul pregnancy center vandalized

A St. Paul pregnancy center that opposes abortion was found vandalized this week, and police are investigating.

Graffiti painted on Birthright of St. Paul included the phrases “Abort America” and “Blood on your hands.” The center’s building at Snelling and Carroll avenues was targeted.

Officers were called about the damage, which included two broken windows, on Tuesday about 7 a.m., according to Sgt. David McCabe, a St. Paul police spokesman.

It was unknown when the damage occurred, and there were no suspects as of Wednesday afternoon, McCabe said.

Birthright’s website says they provide information about pregnancy, adoption, prenatal care, community programs, parenting skills and childcare. They describe their organization as “interdenominational” and “not involved in any political activities, or lobbying.”

Birthright St. Paul’s volunteer coordinator told MPR News Tuesday they don’t “believe in referring toward abortion” and “are all very supportive of life.”

Various websites list Birthright locations as “crisis pregnancy centers” that offer pregnancy tests and information, and whose primary aim is to discourage women from seeking abortions.

Abortions remains legal in Minnesota following the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent overturning of Roe v. Wade.
