Serious crash in Tyngsborough that killed 1, hospitalized 6

Local and state police are investigating a two-car collision that killed one and hospitalized six others in Tyngsborough Saturday afternoon.

According to Tyngsborough Police Chief, officers were dispatched to Frost Road at approximately 3:47 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash.

A 2019 Toyota Tundra carrying four passengers, including two children, and a 2008 Toyota Corolla carrying three female passengers experienced a head-on collision.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that, for reasons still unknown, the Corolla left its travel lane and entered the opposite lane, driving the wrong way.

In an attempt to avoid the oncoming Corolla, the operator of the Tundra swerved and left his travel lane. Simultaneously, the operator of the Corolla tried to correct and turned back into her correct lane and the vehicles collided head-on, according to police.

The four occupants of the Tundra were transported to Lowell General Hospital with unknown injuries.

The operator of the Toyota Corolla was transported to Lahey Hospital in Burlington with serious injuries. The front passenger of the Corolla was transported to Mass General where she was pronounced dead. The rear passenger of the Corolla was transported to Lahey Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The identities have not been made available at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Tyngsborough Police Department.
