Police Launch Tear Gas to Disperse Indigenous Marchers Outside the Legislative Palace in Quito

Indigenous demonstrators protesting the end of fuel subsidies and other austerity measures clashed with police in Quito, Ecuador, on October 11, on the 9th day of demonstrations, according to reports.

Protests in Ecuador have been ongoing since the country’s government passed economic reforms in the first week of October, specifically doing away with a long-upheld subsidy on fuel, causing a 100 percent increase in prices, according to reports.
