Police: Man arrested for DUI later called 911 to scream at dispatchers

Jun. 12—A man arrested for drunken driving Thursday night in South Abington Twp. returned home from his arrest and called 911 at least eight times to scream at dispatchers that he wanted his laptop back, police charged.

Not long after, James Crowley walked to the township police station to yell at the officers in person.

Crowley, 59, 14 Briarwood Way, South Abington Twp., is charged with eight counts of communications with 911, and one count each of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

When police arrested him for driving under the influence Thursday and impounded his car, they took the laptop he had inside his vehicle for safekeeping until he could pick it up. After he was processed, police gave him a ride home.

He repeatedly called the 911 center to demand his laptop back. Patrolman Leonard Harvey called him and told him not to call 911 unless there was an actual emergency. Crowley told him, "you have no idea who I am," and told the officer he'd be fired in the morning.

On the last call to 911, he said he'd walk to the police station to get the computer.

He arrived at 1:20 a.m. Friday, swaying back and forth and smelling of alcohol. He screamed at them, and police told him he was under arrest for public drunkenness. He "resisted slightly" and several officers had to help Harvey put handcuffs on him, according to police.

Crowley was free Friday on $1,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled June 21.
