Nashville police ID man killed in shooting near Cayce Homes; shooter still on the loose

Nashville police identified the man killed in shooting Monday as 28-year-old Shaquille Cotton.

The shooting appeared to be targeted, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. It happened around 4:15 p.m. in the 600 block of S. 7th Street in the Cayce Homes neighborhood.

Police said Cotton was standing on the passenger side of a silver vehicle speaking to the people inside when someone approached him from behind and shot him several times before fleeing. Cotton later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police are still searching for the shooter, who appeared to be male. A complete description of the suspect was not available.

Police ask anyone with information on the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
