Dec. 9—An Ohio man was arrested early Friday after Pittsburgh police said he stole an ambulance while paramedics were handling a medical call in Mt. Washington.

Paramedics were treating a patient around 4:30 a.m. on West Sycamore Street when the ambulance was stolen. Authorities said it was driven onto the Parkway West where state police were able to track it down more than 20 miles away. Troopers said they took over the police chase in Robinson Township and used spike strips to stop the ambulance on the highway near the Hopewell exit in Beaver County.

Troopers identified the driver as Vincent Scrbacic, 32, of Irondale, Ohio. They said he was intoxicated and resisted arrest. He was charged with fleeing from police, receiving stolen property, driving under the influence and related offenses.

He was awaiting arraignment Friday afternoon, according to online court records.
