Police: Milton man and Williamsport man used fake money at Lewisburg store

Apr. 13—LEWISBURG — A Milton man and a Williamsport man used a fake $100 bill to pay for merchandise at the Firefly Convenient Store in Lewisburg on April 5, according to Buffalo Valley Regional Police.

Shannan Eric Smith, 47, of South Front Street, Milton, was charged with a felony count of forgery while Donyae Jarmon Austin, 22, of Cherry Street, Williamsport, was charged with a felony count of criminal conspiracy to commit forgery. They were each charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft by deception and receiving stolen property; a summary count of retail theft. The charges were filed by Buffalo Valley Regional Police Patrolman Zachary Thomas Mosso in the Lewisburg office of District Judge Jeffrey Rowe.

Smith and Austin allegedly used a fake $100 bill to purchase merchandise at the store at 4:54 p.m. April 5 at 314 Market St., Lewisburg. The $100 bill was carefully cut/torn at the bottom right and had text in the upper left that read "Play money" and "United States play money" on the Benjamin Franklin face side, police said.

After the transaction, Smith allegedly tipped the clerk $10 from his change, police said.

During a police interview, Smith admitted to knowingly using the fake bill. He and Austin used the money to purchase other items and food, police said.
