Authorities were seen rushing protesters in Portland, Oregon, early on July 18 after large gatherings of people defied orders from authorities to disperse.
Justin Yau was present at the protests where he documented the sequence of events on Twitter, which saw officers trying to clear protesters from the area using non-lethal munitions.
Yau told Storyful that both the police and federal agents moved protesters away from the Justice Centre in Downtown Portland in what he called “a coordinated effort.”
According to Oregonlive.com, federal agents used tear gas “at least twice” against protesters.
Portland’s Mayor Ted Wheeler, had criticized federal agents for their handling of the situation and criticized US President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy federal agents to the city, demanding that they are removed.
“Keep your troops in your own buildings, or have them leave our city,” he said in a press conference before adding that it was “an absolute abuse of federal law enforcement officials.”
