Police name Yorktown man accused of deliberately hitting another man with an ATV

YORKTOWN – Police identified the Yorktown man who is accused of riding an all-terrain vehicle that struck a 64-year-old man over the weekend at a ballfield.

Kyle Frankild, 21, has been charged with felony first-degree assault, according to police.

Both Frankild and the 64-year-old man, who is also a Yorktown resident, were hospitalized. They remained in a hospital as of Thursday, according to police.

The victim was allegedly trying to stop several ATV and dirt bike riders from damaging the Lakeside Park ballfield’s grounds, Town Supervisor Tom Diana said in a statement on Monday.

Police believe Frankild intentionally struck the resident, Yorktown Police Chief Robert Noble has said.

Diana's statement said that, according to witnesses, multiple people were on ATVs and dirtbikes.

Noble said Frankild was arraigned on Wednesday and is being held without bail. He will remain in the custody of the Westchester County Department of Corrections, pending further court action.

“We have recovered and have in our possession the ATV which struck our victim,” the chief’s statement said Monday. The statement added that while the suspect is an adult, "we have reason to believe that several juveniles were present on the aforementioned ATV's and dirt bikes.”

ATVs are not allowed at town parks because they can damage playing fields, grass and other landscaping, the statement said.

Diana has stated the Town Board will reexamine ordinances and consider measures to ensure what happened doesn’t happen again.

Frankild's attorney, Philip Hersh, said his client was in surgery for three hours and he has not yet had a chance to speak to him, so he was unable to offer a comment on his behalf at this time.
