Police officer airlifted to hospital after crash in Hialeah is in “stable condition”

A Miami-Dade Schools police officer was airlifted to the hospital after a crash Thursday afternoon in Hialeah.

The crash occurred at West Okeechobee Road and 18th Avenue. The injured officer was taken to Westland Hialeah Senior High School and was then airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami.

A Miami-Dade Schools Police spokesperson said the officer was responding to a medical emergency at a nearby school and he is “in stable condition.” A law enforcement source told the Miami Herald that the officer’s injuries aren’t serious.

Video from WSVN’s helicopter shows a white Dodge Hellcat near the driver side of the officer’s cruiser. The video also showed the officer unconscious on a gurney as he was taken into an ambulance, where he was treated while awaiting air transport.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was treated on the scene, CBS News Miami reported.

Hialeah police has not yet responded to the Miami Herald with more details on the crash.
