Armed suspect shot in clash with Gastonia officer at Buffalo Wild Wings, NC cops say

A police officer in Gastonia, North Carolina, shot a suspect late Tuesday after responding to a call about a “subject with a weapon” at a popular restaurant, according to a press release.

The identities of the officer and suspect have not been released, and police did not said if the suspect has life threatening wounds.

However, the Gaston Gazette identified the suspect as a man who had life-threatening injuries after being “shot multiple times.” Gaston County District Attorney Locke Bell told the Gazette the shooting appeared to be justified, based on “body camera footage and witness statements.”

The incident happened about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Buffalo Wild Wings at 422 Cox Road, according to police. “One officer was involved and was not injured,” said a release.

Investigators have not released details on why the officer fired his pistol or what kind of weapon the suspect was carrying. They have also not said whether the shooting took place inside the restaurant or in the parking lot.

One witness told Fox 46 that a man was seen in the parking lot with a gun, and the staff put “the restaurant was placed on lock down and customers were told to go to the back.”

“A request was made for the State Bureau of Investigations to conduct an independent investigation,” said a press release.
