Police: One person shot, suspect at large after Saturday incident at Stuart apartment complex

STUART — Police are searching for a 20-year-old man whom they say fled the scene after shooting a person around 10 a.m. Saturday at the Crossings at Indian Run Apartments off Southeast Indian Street.

Ri'ahj Lee Thomas, of Fort Pierce, entered an apartment with four other people and shot a man in the leg, according to a Stuart Police Department Facebook post.

"The victim was taken to the hospital where he will be treated for his wounds," said Lt. Michael Gerwan.

Police said Thomas is considered to be armed and dangerous. “Do not approach,” the Facebook post advises.

Thomas is wanted in connection with multiple crimes including robbery, tampering with a witness and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The office is offering a cash reward for any details about his whereabouts.

This was one of three shootings that happened Saturday in Martin County.

Around 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cedar Pointe Condominiums, Henry and Ginger Wallace were shot to death by their neighbor, Hugh Hootman, who has been charged with two counts of first degree murder. A homeowners association dispute was the apparent motive in the shooting, according to Martin County Sheriff William Synder.

The other shooting occurred around midnight Saturday in the 3800 block of Northwest Windemere Drive in Jensen Beach.

A 14-year-old boy accidentally shot his friend, another teenager, with his father's revolver. The teen was treated for his injuries and discharged from the hospital, according to Stuart Police Lt. Michael Gerwan. No charges are being pressed, he added.
