Man identified after fatal shooting on Timber View Drive in Castleton

A man is dead after a shooting south of 96th Street in Castleton on Wednesday, according to police.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found the man with a gunshot wound after responding to the 9400 block of Timber View Drive just before 10 a.m.

The man was identified as J’mel Dowdell, 43, according to the Marion County Coroner's Office.

Dowdell was transported to a hospital in critical condition where he later died, according to IMPD.

Homicide detectives are speaking with a person of interest in connection to the shooting and are collecting potential forensic evidence, according to IMPD.
