Man shot by Bedford deputies after pursuit being treated for life-threatening injuries

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– Virginia State Police say they are investigating after a shooting that occurred involving officers on Falling Creek Road in Bedford County on Sunday, Feb. 11.

Although details remain limited at this time, VSP says the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for Reckless Driving. The vehicle involved allegedly fled the traffic stop and continued into Bedford County, starting a vehicle pursuit.

VSP reports the vehicle involved crashed on Falling Creek Road, where the shooting occurred.

State police confirmed the suspect was a man and he was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the treatment of a gunshot wound. VSP says he has life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured during this incident.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– The Virginia Department of Transportation says all lanes on Rt. 714 near Lady Fern Drive and Otter Hill Road in Bedford County have been shut down due to a police presence.

As of 2:02 p.m., all east and west lanes are closed. A detour is in place for drivers traveling through the area.
