PROVIDENCE – A 39-year-old city man is facing charges after authorities allege that he threatened a woman with a gun outside her apartment complex.

According to police, a 25-year-old woman told officers that an unknown man followed her to her car at The 91 Lofts on Hartford Avenue around 9 p.m. after she replied “What?” as he made comments as she walked through the lobby on her way to work.

She said the man – later identified as David Sifuentes, of Providence – pulled a gun from his waistband, pointed it at her and warned, “If you don’t shut up, I’ll make you gone.”

An officer spotted Sifuentes – who police allege fit the woman's description and attempted to flee as he was commanded to stop, according to police Cmdr. Thomas Verdi. The police took Sifuentes into custody without further incident and found a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson Special revolver tucked in his front waistband.

Sifuentes was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence, Verdi said.

He remains held as he awaits an appearance in state District Court.
