UPDATE: 1 in custody after police pursuit ends with SUV crashing into building

UPDATE @ 2:33 p.m.:

One person is in custody after a police pursuit ended with a vehicle crashing into a building in Dayton.

Riverside Police Sgt. David Schmidt said officers initially responded to a domestic violence incident on Fair Park Ave earlier Friday morning. He said the male suspect had left the scene, but later came back and “possibly [abducted] the female” and left with her in his maroon Chevrolet SUV.

An officer later got behind the man’s SUV and a short pursuit began. It ended when the driver lost control on Springfield Street. Schmidt said the man’s SUV flipped and the rear end of it hit a building.

The man then got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene. He was quickly caught and taken into custody. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital to be treated for injuries.

The woman in the vehicle was treated on scene and released.

INITIAL REPORT:

Police are investigating after a vehicle crashed into a Dayton building Friday afternoon.

The crash was reported on San Jose Avenue, near Springfield Street, just before 1 p.m.

A Dayton Police sergeant on scene confirmed that the crash involved a vehicle that was involved in a pursuit with Riverside Police prior to the crash.

At least two medics were called to the scene. Our crew reported seeing one leave with a police cruiser following it.

Riverside Police are investigating the incident.
