Police release more information on fatal crash south of Philo

Sep. 23—PHILO — Illinois State Police have released additional details about a two-vehicle crash in southern Champaign County that claimed the life of a Sidney woman.

Suzanne C. Ayers, 30, was killed in the collision, which happened about 7:42 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Illinois 130 and County Road 700 N about a mile south of Philo. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said an autopsy done Saturday showed she died of blunt force injuries.

State police said Ms. Ayers was driving west on County Road 700 N when she failed to yield to a vehicle headed north on 130 and that vehicle hit the driver's side of Ms. Ayers' vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle, Christine Herschberger, 35, of Broadlands, and two child passengers with her were taken to an area hospital for treatment of what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Police shut down the busy north-south highway for about six hours as they investigated the crash.
