Police release photos, description of car, driver involved in fatal hit-and-run

Feb. 10—The Santa Fe Police Department released new information Friday on a vehicle suspected to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run Feb. 4 on St. Francis Drive between Cordova Road and Alta Vista Street.

Police provided pictures of the vehicle suspected of hitting 58-year-old Bernadette Martinez and described the car as a "compact, maroon or red sedan with dark tint."

Police also provided a physical description of the driver, who was spotted by witnesses when she got out of her car immediately after the crash.

In a news release issued Friday, police described the driver as a "thin, short, light skinned" woman who is about 5 feet tall with "frizzy long brown hair that was worn 'half up/half down.'"

Capt. Anthony Tapia said Martinez was wearing dark clothes and was crossing St. Francis Drive in an area with no crosswalk when the crash occurred. He added police hope the driver who hit Martinez will come forward and answer questions about the crash so investigators can make a final determination on its cause.

Police ask anyone with information related to the incident to call traffic Investigator Patrick Pinson at 505-955-5694.
