Coroner identifies victim in fatal stabbing at Evansville bar

EVANSVILLE – A man has died and another has been arrested after a reported stabbing inside a bar restroom in Evansville's arts district Saturday evening, Evansville police said.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office identified the victim in the slaying as Colin McHargue, 30, of Newburgh, Indiana.

In a news release Sunday morning, EPD spokeswoman Sgt. Anna Gray identified the suspect as 29-year-old Zachary Parksey. He has been preliminarily charged with murder. Court records list him as a resident of Brazil, Indiana.

A supervisor at Evansville Central Dispatch told the Courier & Press Saturday night that police and ambulances responded to the reported stabbing at Mo's House in the 1100 block of Parrett Street around 5 p.m.

According to Gray, officers found the victim, an adult male, inside the bar with a stab wound to his neck. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, but later died. The victim hasn't been publicly identified.

According to police, witnesses told investigators that Parksey and McHargue appeared to know each other. They had apparently had an argument inside the men's restroom, where the stabbing reportedly occurred.

Officers found Parksey on scene. He was covered in blood, the release states.

"He was detained by officers but acted as if he could not walk or stay awake," Gray wrote. "Parksey was transported to the hospital for medical clearance. Once he was medically cleared, Parksey was transported to the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center and charged with murder."

In a post to its Facebook page, Mo's House announced it would be closed Sunday to "allow our team some time to digest recent events." It will reopen Tuesday.

"It's important we check on each other during times like this," the post read.
