4 injured in shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas; suspect booked on assault, weapons charges
Four people were injured Wednesday in a shooting at a high school in Texas, and three were hospitalized, police said.
Suspected gunman Timothy George Simpkins, an 18-year old student, turned himself in and was in police custody Wednesday afternoon after initially fleeing the scene, said Kevin Kolbye, the Arlington assistant police chief.
Simpkins was booked in the Arlington jail on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was being held on $75,000 bail.
The shooting happened during a fight on the second floor of Timberview High School in Arlington, Kolbye said. Officers received calls of a shooting around 9:15 a.m., Kolbye said, adding that three of the victims were students.
"More than two or three shots" were fired, and at least two people had gunshot injuries, Kolbye said. Two victims who were shot were expected to remain in the hospital. One was in the intensive care unit, Kolbye said. A third who may have been grazed by a bullet is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday, he added. A fourth person was hurt but did not require hospitalization.
