Police: Rockford man charged with murder in 2021 homicide case

ROCKFORD — The death of a man whose body was found on Easter Sunday last year outside a residence in the 1300 block of Arthur Avenue has been ruled a homicide, police said.

The man was identified as Orlando Perez who died by blunt force trauma.

Police responded about 3:15 p.m. on April 4, on a report of a possible deceased male found lying in the yard next to a condemned residence. The death was later ruled a homicide by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.

Rockford police detectives identified Anthony Taylor, 36, of Rockford as a suspect. He was arrested Monday at a residence on Furman Street for an outstanding warrant for retail theft. After the case was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, Taylor also was charged with first-degree murder.

He is being held in the Winnebago County Jail awaiting arraignment.
