Police continue to search for hospitalized man who stole ambulance in Fairfax County

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Fairfax County police are searching for a suspect who stole an ambulance in Annandale on Monday night.

Police said that on Monday at about 12:30 p.m., Fair Oaks officers were notified of a stolen 2015 Toyota Corolla near the Fair Oaks Mall. Police saw the car leaving the mall parking lot and heading east on Route 50.

The driver then saw police and started speeding. The driver quickly changed directions and drove west on I-66 ramp. The driver lost control of the car and entered the embankment, hitting a small hill.

Police provided aid to all five people in the car. Four of the five people in the car were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Another person was flown by to a hospital initially in critical condition, but later determined to be non-life-threatening.

Inside the car, officers found a rifle, a pistol, a bag of unknown white powder and other drug items.

The driver was charged with Grand Larceny. He remains hospitalized and will be served the warrants upon his release.

Hours after the crash, police responded to Fairfax Hospital for a stolen ambulance.

Officers determined that the suspect, 32-year-old Rickey Lowe of Manassas was a passenger from the crash that happened earlier in the day and was receiving medical treatment.

He was involved in a crash earlier in the day on I66.

While not discharged, he walked away from treatment with an IV in his arm, jumped in the ambulance and stole it, according to police. He was still wearing a medical gown at the time.

The stolen ambulance was found abandoned in the 4200 block of Annandale Road in Annandale.

Police have not yet found Lowe.
