Police search for suspect in attempted catalytic converter theft

Police are searching for a suspect who attempted to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked at Irish Hills Collision in Brooklyn early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:09 a.m. at the business located at 14221 W. US 12 Hwy, Brooklyn, according to a press release issued by the Michigan State Police Monroe Post. It was captured by a security camera system on the business property.

Through investigative leads and the obtained footage, it was determined that a pickup truck drove onto the property at 3:09 a.m. Shortly after, a subject was seen on camera walking over to a parked vehicle and crawling underneath it. The suspect vehicle is described as a mid-2000, white four-door pickup truck with half doors in the rear, possibly a Chevrolet Silverado. The truck also had a white tonneau cover and no visible registration plate. The suspect captured in the video reportedly appeared to be a male, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. They reportedly began to remove the catalytic converter from the parked vehicle with a cutting tool, but stopped abruptly after being startled by a nearby neighbor who heard the incident.

The suspect retreated to the white pickup truck and fled the scene with the driver at 3:15 a.m.
