Authorities found 10-year-old Rosemary Singer of Carrollton after issuing an Amber Alert. Her mother was found murdered early Wednesday in Carrollton, police said, and the child’s father, Ronald Singer, was arrested.

The search began after Maria Romero Ramos, 45, was found murdered about 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of East Hebron Parkway in Carrollton, police said. Her roommate discovered the body, police said in a news release.

Carrollton police have not released information on the cause of her death.

When the alert was issued, police said they believed the child was with her father, who was the victim’s ex-husband, police said.

Rosemary Singer had been at a friend’s home at the time of the killing, Carrollton police said.

Ronald Singer showed up at that home and told his daughter that she was going with him because mom had an emergency, according to Carrollton police.

Carrollton police said Singer took Ramos’ car, a 2020 black Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, and drove the girl to a motel in Red Oak, Texas, according to WFAA-TV.

An overnight hotel clerk at the La Quinta in Red Oak recognized the two from the Amber Alert and called authorities.

Authorities that included the Dallas FBI field office and Dallas and Red Oak police departments found the child at the motel. She was not injured.

Singer was arrested without incident.

“On the heels of tragedy and tragic loss of life, we had the best possible outcome occur,” Carrollton Police Chief Chief Derick Miller said during a news conference to announce the girl had been found.

The child was in the care of officials with Texas Family and Protective Services.
