The body of a missing UMass Dartmouth student has been found, officials say.

FAIRHAVEN — UMass Dartmouth officials confirmed the death of UMD student Flordan "Flo" Bazile in an email to students Tuesday night, after a day of authorities searching.

"It is with great sadness, I write to tell you that Flordan 'Flo' Bazile, a Charlton College of Business undergraduate student, has passed away," read the email from UMD Chancellor Dr. Mark Fuller.

"It is always heartbreaking to see such a promising young life cut short. I want our students to know that we are here to support you."

According to the email, Bazile, 21, was a member of UMD's track and field team, and had, in the past two weeks, earned the titles of Little East Conference Track Athlete and Track Rookie Athlete of the Week.

During his time at New Bedford High, Bazile was a multi-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball, track and field and cross country, according to past Standard-Times sports coverage.
