Police searching for suspect who assaulted and robbed an Asian man in Hayward, California mall

Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted and robbed an Asian victim in Hayward, California.

The man was captured on camera in Southland Mall robbing a person lying motionless on the ground before running away on Saturday morning.

The suspect beat the victim and stole his jewelry, according to the police.

“Earlier today, cell phone footage surfaced depicting an image and video of a subject who assaulted and forced an adult male to the ground,” Hayward police said in a statement. “The suspect, who may have been armed with a knife, then took property from the victim and fled the scene.”

The recording of the incident, which was posted on Instagram by the group Asians With Attitudes, captured the commotion after the victim was knocked to the ground. Bystanders can be seen fleeing the scene while the suspect robs him.

The victim, who is believed to be Filipino, is reportedly in good condition. Hayward police have not commented on any possible racial motives. They are currently investigating the incident.
