Police are searching for a man caught vandalizing Key West’s most famous landmark
Note to people thinking about committing a crime at the Southernmost Point Buoy in Key West: There’s a live web camera pointing to the famous landmark — and everything you do is being filmed and photographed in real time.
That’s what happened Friday night when a man was photographed scrawling graffiti on the monument, which most tourists consider as a must-do for a group photo or a selfie when visiting Key West.
In snapshots released by police, the man is seen with two women and what appears to be a young child.
Officers have not released what was written on the buoy to avoid potentially compromising the investigation, Key West police spokeswoman Alyson Crean told the Miami Herald.
“He tagged it is all I can say,” Crean said.
Key West police are asking that anyone with information about the incident to call 305-809-1000. .
