Police searching for teen accused of kidnapping 1-year-old in New Jersey

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities in New Jersey and Philadelphia are searching for a teenage girl accused of kidnapping a 1-year-old boy who has since been reunited with his family.

Police say 16-year-old Akera Johns refused to return the 1-year-old to his family Friday night in Vineland. Johns is described by police as a "family friend" of the child.

The Philadelphia division of the U.S. Marshals shared a post on X Monday afternoon that said Johns is being sought for kidnapping charges.

The pair were last spotted together near the intersection of 32nd Street & Susquehanna Avenue in Philadelphia Monday morning.

Authorities confirmed Monday night that the child had been safely reunited with his mother and the search for Johns is still unfolding.
