Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest or indictment of a suspect in connection with the 2017 death of a 22-year-old man.

Around 2 a.m. on Aug. 4, 2017, 22-year-old Cody V. Nichols was found shot in the hallway of an apartment building on the 700 block of Doulton Court in the Wedgewood Village Apartments on the city's West Side.

Columbus police said they had received a call about 1:50 a.m. that morning reporting gunshots and then about 10 minutes later got a call about Nichols lying in the hallway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dispatch reported in 2017 that witnesses reported seeing a man wearing a black hoodie, blue boxers and a red hat running from the area after the gunshots were heard.

Nichols had lived in the apartment with one of his eight siblings. He was survived by his parents, his siblings and a young son, as well as an extended network of family and friends.

In his obituary, Nichols' family said he enjoyed playing video games, camping, fishing and other outdoor activities.

"His family wants him remembered as he was ... a loving, silly, carefree family man," the obituary said.
