Police seek tips after man dies from injuries sustained in Marietta hit-and-run

Jul. 26—A man has died from injuries sustained in a Sunday hit-and-run in a Marietta parking lot, police announced on Tuesday.

The Marietta Police Department previously said that Andres Salanic-Sacalxot, 54, of Guatemala, was struck by a vehicle as he was walking in the parking lot of 814 Sandtown Road around 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

Salanic-Sacalxot was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Police announced Tuesday that he died shortly before 11 p.m. Monday.

The investigation into the incident remains open, and police are asking anyone with information to contact Officer St. Onge at the Marietta Police Department at 770-794-5352. According to police, Salanic-Sacalxot was hit by a white work van with ladders on top. The van fled the scene without stopping.

The parking lot, located just south of Sandtown Road's intersection with Powder Springs Street, is outside La Casa Mercado supermarket.
