LANSING TWP. — Police arrested one man and are seeking two others after a man was beaten and robbed at a home on West Michigan Avenue Tuesday afternoon that was initially called in as a shooting and led to a heavy police presence.

Police said a 35-year-old man was attacked about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday over an unspecified debt by three men who were armed with brass knuckles, a metal pipe and a pistol. The man was transported to Sparrow Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police arrested a 44-year-old man at the scene, but two others fled on foot. The 44-year-old is being held in the Ingham County Jail, police said in a release.

Lansing Township Detective Randy Volosky is seeking a charge of assault with intent to murder from the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office, the release said. Volosky was not immediately available for comment.

One suspect who fled was identified as a 35-year-old Lansing man, while the third suspect is a man of an unknown age, police said.

Police were dispatched to a home in the 3300 block of West Michigan Avenue, about a block from the police station, for an incident initially reported as a shooting. Upon arriving, police discovered nobody had been shot but the man who was attacked said a shot was fired into the ground near him.

The victim sustained injuries to his head and face, and was covered in blood, police said. Police recovered a pistol matching one described by the victim in the yard of his residence.

The suspects' vehicle was impounded and towed, police said. Two pitbull dogs were inside the vehicle and now are in possession of Ingham County Animal Control.

The Lansing Township Police Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Lansing Police Department and Eaton County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Volosky by phone at 517-999-0291 or by email at voloskyr@lansingtownship.org.
