LAFAYETTE, Ind. — State Rep. Sheila Klinker struck a pedestrian with her car at Third and Columbia streets about 1:35 p.m. Friday, according to Lafayette police.

State Rep. Sheila Klinker was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1982 to represent Indiana House District 27, serving parts of both Lafayette and West Lafayette.

The pedestrian, Leighton Fruits, 23, of Stockwell, had the light to cross, and Klinker, who also had the green light, was turning from westbound Columbia Street onto Third Street, which is one-way southbound, police said.

Fruits complained of pain to his upper leg and was taken to a Lafayette hospital for treatment, police said.

The Journal & Courier called Klinker for comment about the accident. She has not yet responded to the voicemail.
