Police: 'Suspicious' fire in Portsmouth Sheraton hotel parking lot damages 3 vehicles

PORTSMOUTH — Police and fire department members are investigating a vehicle fire in a hotel parking lot early Tuesday morning that spread to a pair of nearby vehicles.

The Portsmouth Police Department announced Friday information is being sought on the fire, calling it "suspicious." The fire took place in the Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel parking lot between Russell Street and Vaughan Street.

Police said the fire was reported at 12:46 a.m. Tuesday. The Portsmouth Fire Department responded and found the fire had expanded and engulfed two additional vehicles.

The fire caused damage to the three vehicles, requiring two of them to be towed from the lot, police said.

The New Hampshire state fire marshal’s office is also investigating.
