Police: Two men shot in leg after memorial service at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron

Police say two men suffered non-life-threatening injuries after they were shot in their legs following a memorial service Friday outside the Newcomer Funeral Home on North Canton Road in Akron.

Police responded around 3:37 p.m. Friday and were told the shooting occurred outside in the parking lot after the service. Officers and EMS responded to the scene and found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The man was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital for treatment.

Minutes later, a second man, 29, arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Officers secured the scene at the funeral home, and detectives collected evidence in connection to the incident.

Detectives are working to identify the person or persons responsible for the shooting. Further information was not immediately available.
