Police warn of rise in gift card scams

The Centerville Police Department posted an alert on their Facebook warning residents about the rising number of gift card scams.

CPD says scammers have been calling, texting, and/or sending mail to citizens and claiming they are from the IRS, Social Security Administration, law enforcement, or tech support, asking for payment with gift cards.

Some scammers also claim to be family members who are in an emergency and need gift cards.

The post adds that victims of this scam can go to ReportFraud.ftc.gov to report the scammers.
