Police: Woman, 74, dies after she is struck by car on Valentine’s Day in Bridgeport

A 74-year-old Bridgeport woman died after she was struck by a car in Bridgeport on Valentine’s Day, police said.

The Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received several calls about a pedestrian who was hit by a car near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Broad Street on Tuesday. The callers said the woman wasn’t moving and that the driver remained on the scene, according to a release from Bridgeport Sgt. Darryl Wilson.

According to police, a black 2018 Acura driven by a 37-year-old woman from Norwalk was traveling west on Fairfield Avenue when the car struck the woman as she attempted to cross the street near the intersection of Broad Street.

The Bridgeport Fire Department and Bridgeport Police Department responded to the scene and located the pedestrian, identified as 74-year-old Alma Willis of Bridgeport, who had sustained lower extremity trauma and a head injury, police said.

Police also observed an Acura with a smashed front windshield on the passenger side at the scene, according to Wilson.

Willis was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital where she died later that evening, according to police.

“The Bridgeport Police Department’s thoughts and prayers are with Alma Willis’ family and friends,” Wilson said in a statement.

The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Gallbronner at 475-422-3247, Officer Quiles at 475-422-6146 or the Bridgeport Police Tip Line at 203-576-TIPS.
