Washington County Republican Central Committee nominates four to serve on local election board

The Washington County Republican Central Committee voted earlier this month to submit the following list of names to the governor's office as its nominees to be considered for appointment as regular members of theWashington County Board of Elections:

  • Kandace Carpenter

  • Linda McCarty

  • Charles Johnson

  • Nancy Armstrong

In a news release, the central committee said it thanks the nominees for "their willingness to serve the citizens of our county on its local Board of Elections and looks forward to working with all members and staff of the board to secure elections that are 'free and frequent' and to protect the rights of all qualified citizens to vote."

Maryland election law requires the governor to request from county Central Committees a list of at least four names from which he might make an appointment of a regular member of the local board, according to the release. Because the Democratic candidate for governor received the most votes in the most recent election, two Republicans and three Democrats must be appointed to the local board.

The members of the Washington County Republican Central Committee are the official representatives of the registered Republicans in Washington County to the Maryland State Republican Party.
