Brooke Grossman picked to serve on Women Legislators of Maryland executive board

A Hagerstown member of the House of Delegates was picked to be the secretary of the Women’s Legislative Caucus of Maryland for next year's legislative session, according to a news release from the group.

Del. Brooke Grossman, D-Washington, is in her first term representing District 2B, which generally covers the city of Hagerstown.

Grossman is one of eight women on the executive cabinet with Del. Edith J. Patterson, D-Charles, who was unanimously elected president of the caucus for the 2024 General Assembly. The new executive board began its term April 11.

Have you ever thought about being a member of the board that oversees education in Washington County?

The United Democrats of Washington County are holding a free community event, "Being a School Board Member," on May 10 in the community room of the downtown Hagerstown branch of the Washington County Free Library, 100 S. Potomac St.

Three current Washington County Public Schools Board of Education members will participate in a panel discussion and Q&A, according to a news release from the United Democrats. Questions will be taken from both a moderator and the audience about the role of the school board, how to run for office, how to serve, and what other opportunities there are to participate in county public education policy-making.

South Dakota governor to speak at Maryland GOP annual dinner

The Maryland Republican Party announced recently that South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem will headline the group's 32nd annual Red, White, & Blue Dinner on June 17.

Noem is a wife, mother, grandmother, rancher, farmer, small business owner and New York Times bestselling author of “Not My First Rodeo: Lessons from the Heartland,” according to an email from the Maryland Republican Party.

Noem’s political career began with her 2006 election to the South Dakota State Legislature followed by her move to the U.S. House of Representatives and as the state’s first female governor.

The dinner starts at 6 p.m. at the BWI Marriott in Linthicum Heights. The deadline to register is June 2. Email RWB@mdgop.org for details.
