Polk County residents will have the opportunity to receive a free Thanksgiving turkey this Saturday.

Polk Sheriff's Charities, a nonprofit organization associated with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, will be giving away up to 1,200 turkeys at three locations across the county on Saturday. It will be joined by The Freedom Tour, a Lake Wales-based volunteer organization, which will be providing boxes of food to those in need.

"We know that there are families out there who are struggling financially and we want to do our small part to help out during the holidays," Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. "This is the fifth year in row we've been able to provide turkeys to our citizens, thanks to the generous donations made year-round to Polk Sheriff's Charities."

There is a limit of one turkey per family, one per vehicle on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last. No identification or pre-qualification is required.

The turkeys will be given out at three sites:

  • East Polk:  From 9 -10:30 a.m., Church on the Hill, 1111 Scenic Highway, Dundee. Cars will be directed to enter the parking lot south of the church, then circle around to the back for distribution. Vehicles will exit north onto Old Scenic Highway North toward Dundee.

  • Central Polk: From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lake Region High School campus, 1995 Thunder Road, Eagle Lake. Drivers should enter onto Cameron Road from U.S. Highway 17, which turns into Gilert Street then onto Thunder Road before snaking through the school's parking lot.

  • West Polk: From 1-2:30 p.m. at Lakes Church, known as the Church at the Mall, located at 1010 E. Memorial Blvd., Lakeland. Drivers should enter the parking lot from the westbound lane of Memorial Boulevard at the intersection with Ingraham Avenue and will be directed to the rear parking lot of the church.
