Miami-Dade County’s top athletes delivered more impressive performances as we move closer to the end of the 2022-23 high school sports season.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, May 11, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Lester Martinez, Columbus, baseball: Martinez hit a grand slam to lead the Explorers to a 9-4 win over Braddock - their 14th in a row - and the District 15-7A championship.
▪ Cynteria James, Southridge, girls’ track and field: James won the 100, 200 and 400 meter races to lead the Spartans to the Region 4-4A championship.
▪ Brandon Olivera, Miami Springs, baseball: Olivera, a University of Miami signee, struck out nine and threw a three-hitter to lead the Golden Hawks to an 8-1 win over Mater Lakes and the District 15-4A championship.
▪ Dylan Prince, Miami Christian, baseball: Prince went 2 for 2 with four RBI to lead the Victors to a 5-3 win over Brito and the District 16-2A championship.
▪ Rachel Hawkins, Coral Reef, softball: Hawkins went 2 for 2 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Barracudas to a 13-4 win over Palmetto and the District 16-7A championship.
